Scottish recycler Rosefield Salvage has updated its equipment with a new T750CLS shear-baler from Italian tech provider Idromec.
Idromec, the renowned Italian manufacturer of scrap metal shear balers, has recently installed a brand new machine at Rosefield Salvage. The facility is an official end-of-life vehicle recycler that handles more than 2 000 tonnes per month of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, serving both small and big customers.
ESTABLISHED ROOTS
The operation is owned by the Williamson family and is part of a group of long-established scrap metal merchants. It is a widely recognised name in the industry in Scotland. The Williamson group was started in the 1920s by Thomas Williamson, based in Elgin, Morayshire, in the north-east of the country.
In the 1960s the initial firm of Williamson and Co was joined by D & S metals when two of Thomas’ sons, Douglas and Stanley, joined the group. With the arrival of the third generation of family members in the late 1980s, further expansion was inevitable. This includes opening a site at Fraserburgh and Peterhead in 1988.
Rosefield Salvage, based in Dumfries in southwest Scotland, was the final company to join the group. ‘We are now in our fourth generation and it will be up to them to take the company forward,’ says Douglas.
TRUSTED TECH
For decades, Idromec has been the trusted go-to supplier for the Williamson family businesses when it comes to shear balers and that tradition is still going strong. After 14 years of reliable service, Rosefield Salvage is upgrading one of its machines with a new version of the same powerful model, now enhanced with all the latest Idromec innovations.
The machine is the ever-dependable T750CLS, a semi-mobile shear baler with a seven-metre compaction box. It is a strong vote of confidence from the customer. ‘This will be the sixth Idromec machine we have purchased over the last 20 years,’ adds Williamson. ‘They have proved reliable and enduring, a tough machine for a tough environment.’
Paul Williamson, one of the group’s directors, is positive about the strengths he sees in Idromec’s products as well as the after-sales service provided by Agriquip in Burnley, represented by Phil Whitehead. ‘There has been a progression of improvements over the years and various upgrades to the models. The core strength of the machine hasn’t been compromised by being over-complicated with unnecessary sensors,’ Paul notes.
‘They are relatively straightforward to maintain and Agriquip of Burnley has a lot of experience in the repair and servicing of the machines. With the technical back-up provided by the factory, Phil Whitehead has the support to keep these excellent machines operating even in the most difficult conditions.’
3 000 MACHINES WORLDWIDE
Since its founding in 1969, Idromec has manufactured and supplied more than 3 000 machines worldwide, primarily in the US. These include balers for cars, metals and scrap to side compression shear balers and models with lids, both stationary and semi-mobile, delivering shearing forces ranging from 600 to 1 600 tonnes.
Idromec’s engineering department has recently developed an innovative compaction box with three lids instead of two, designed to deliver faster, more efficient crushing of the bulkier, heavier scrap.
Each lid is operated by three cylinders, making nine in all, ensuring exceptional power and structural stability. This innovation has delivered outstanding results and is now available on shear balers of 900 tonnes and above, as well as on car balers. Now in its third generation, Idromec continues to operate with the same enthusiasm and drive for improvement, guided by its core values of honesty, transparency, and reliability.
