Tyre recycler to consolidate in the USA

USA / China – Rubber recycler Tire International is close to shutting down its Chinese facility and consolidating its North American operations through a US$ 25 million investment in an existing plant in South Carolina, bringing with it 150 jobs over the next nine months.

The company, formerly headquartered in New York, looked at sites in China, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland before deciding on Moncks Corner in South Carolina.
Marty Sergi, Tire International’s Chief Financial Officer, describes as ‘very inefficient’ the process of shipping material to China to be made into products which are then sent back.
The company will use an existing facility called Energy City Tire Recycling in Moncks Corner to recycle tyres and make products such as rubber pavers or mulch found in home improvement, hardware and lawn/garden stores. ‘We are looking to acquire the site and team up with Energy City,’ explains Mr Sergi.
