All aspects of global green technology
will be represented at the 19th edition
of the Ecomondo trade fair. Atten-
dance of the event broke all records
last year, with more than 100 000 trade
and industry visitors from all over the
world visiting the show.
A total of 16 halls of Rimini Fiera will be
used to show off the latest innovations
in recycling, waste treatment, green
chemistry and bio-based processing.
This expansion is necessary, according
to organisers, as this ‘key’ exposition for
recyclers in southern Europe and the
Mediterranean has seen visitor numbers
virtually double over the last five years.
The programme for this latest event
will cover such topics as: the maturity
of Italy’s e-scrap sector; advanced
applications for solid recovered fuels;
the zero waste debate; legislation sup-
porting a green economy; and the
implications of end-of-waste status.
This year, Ecomondo is hosting the
new edition of the States General of
the Green Economy, organised by the
National Council of the Green Econ-
omy. This represents 66 business
organisations, the Sustainable Devel-
opment Foundation, and will include
the participation of the Italian minis-
tries for the environment and for eco-
nomic development.

This well-established global gath-
ering of aluminium recycling exec-
utives will provide a platform for
in-depth analysis of the latest
trends and challenges facing indus-
try players. Aluminium recycling
is ‘moving ever more into the spot-
light’, says conference host Metal
Bulletin Events (MBE), as compa-
nies around the world seek to
incorporate more secondary feeds
into their materials f low sheet and
product lines.
Topics to be discussed will include:
scrap prices and availability; devel-
opments in North America; alu-
minium recycling in the automotive
market; the future of non-tradition-
al scrap sources; and China’s influ-
ence on the a luminium mar-
ket. Speakers will include Iñigo
Aranguren of Hydro Aluminium
Iberia, Magdalena Garczynska of
the European Aluminium Associa-
tion, and Stefan Glimm of the Euro-
pean Aluminium Foil Association.
This year, the conference will kick
off with a visit to Hydro Alumini-
um’s re-melt plant at Azuqueca to
the north east of Madrid. ‘This is
an excellent opportunity to experi-
ence state-of-the-art recycling first
hand,’ says MBE.
