be sold to Pavgord Group, and all
employees’ jobs are to be transferred
to the new owner. Net of sale pro-
ceeds, the company expects to record
a non-cash loss on disposal of approxi-
mately US$ 200m. The deal is expect-
ed to close in the third quarter of
2025, subject to merger control clear-
ance and the fulfilment of all condi-
tions.
STEEL STATS
World crude steel production for the 70
countries reporting to the World Steel
Association (worldsteel) was 150.1 mil-
lion tonnes (Mt) in July 2025, a 1.3%
decrease compared to July 2024.
MARKET ANALYSIS

China produced 79.9 Mt in May 2025,
down 4.0% on July 2024 while India’s
total was 14.0 Mt, up 14.0%. Of the
other leading 10 producers, Japan
delivered 6.9 Mt, down 2.5%; the
United States 7.1 Mt (+4.8%); Russia is
estimated at 5.7 Mt (-2.4%); South
Korea 5.3 Mt (-4.7%); Türkiye 3.2 Mt
(+4.2%); Germany 2.7 Mt (-13.7%);
Brazil is estimated at 2.9 Mt (-5.5%);
and Iran 2.2 Mt (+29.7%).
The overall June total was 151.4 Mt, a
5.8% decrease compared to June
2024. The overall May total was 158.8
Mt, a 3.8% decrease compared to May
2024.
