Built for heavy-duty jobs
As the recycling industry faces
increasing volumes of complex
scrap, the demand for efficient
pre-treatment solutions is more
critical than ever. Panizzolo
Recycling Systems developed
Kraken, a new series of
industrial pre-shredders
engineered to deliver high
performance in the initial stages
reducing scrap volumes.
Designed for continuous operation in heavy-
duty conditions, the series debuts with the
PSH 2300 model and will soon expand to
include additional versions tailored to differ-
ent plant sizes and production requirements.
Fully compatible with Panizzolo’s hammer
mills, especially the Mega models, Kraken
plays a strategic role in enhancing the overall
performance of the treatment cycle, ensuring
a consistent and efficient material flow.
STRONG MARKET SIGNAL
‘The Kraken series was born out of a clear
twofold need,’ says company owner Mauro
Panizzolo. ‘We wanted to complete our range
with a high-performance pre-shredder that
could seamlessly integrate with our Mega
hammer mills and match their productivity. At
the same time, the market was sending us a
strong signal: customers needed a robust, reli-
able solution to efficiently prepare even the
toughest scrap for grinding, especially in high-
output systems.’
Panizzolo didn’t just want to add a machine;
they wanted to create a strategic asset.
‘Kraken is that asset: a powerful pre-shredder
engineered to process bulky, complex materi-
als, ensure consistent flow downstream and
enhance the overall efficiency of the treat-
ment cycle.’
UNIQUE APPROACH
The Kraken PSH 2300 is built for heavy-duty
operations. ‘Its performance relies on a
robust, in-house designed dual-shaft system
with 11-tonne shafts,’ explains the owner.
‘This setup ensures precise, controlled tearing
that reduces material size in a single step. But
it’s not just about productivity, it’s also about
safety. Kraken can open pressurised or hazard-
ous elements, such as gas tanks or cylinders,
early in the process, significantly reducing the
risk of explosions and protecting downstream
machinery and operators.’
QUALITY FIRST
Quality is central to every machine Panizzolo
produces and Kraken is no exception. The
company focuses on three key quality aspects:
• ease of use – operators benefit from an intui-
tive software control system with pre-set
and customisable recipes for different scrap
types. The result is a process that’s more
energy-efficient and better aligned with the
specific material being treated, that also
helps reduce unnecessary mechanical stress
on the machine.
• structural integrity: Kraken is built with certi-
fied steel, reinforced welding and compo-
nents sourced from leading Italian and
Northern European suppliers. The uncom-
promising approach to quality translates into
long-term durability and a stronger return
on investment.
• simplified maintenance: Kraken is equipped
with a quick-release shaft system that allows
for fast and easy replacement of worn com-
ponents, significantly reducing downtime.
Bearing supports are designed to shield crit-
ical components from dirt and contamina-
tion, helping maintain high operational effi-
ciency.
HELPING IN THE GULF
The Kraken is a core component of a new
recycling plant Panizzolo is designing and
building for Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA).
The facility will be the largest of its kind in the
UAE, capable of processing up to 170 000
tonnes of scrap per year, recovering low-car-
bon secondary aluminium. Mauro Panizzolo: ‘The market was sending us a strong signal.’
