banned the import of all Russian alu-
minium and steel products in a move
that Ottawa said was aimed at deny-
ing Russia the ability to fund its war
against Ukraine. The ban covers both
finished and unfinished products.

Tamara Lundgren, board chair and
ceo of Schnitzer Steel Industries, has
spoken of brighter prospects for the
big US metal recycler after it returned
a positive net income figure in its
second quarter, which ended on 28

US$ 4 million in the quarter was a
marked improvement on the US$ 18
million loss in the first quarter.
‘Our strong sequential performance
improvement reflects strengthening
demand and prices for recycled met-
als and the resolution of the opera-
tional disruptions we faced in the first
quarter.
The company expects a further
improvement in results in the third
(current) quarter driven by an expan-
sion of metal margins as it benefits
from shipments contracted at higher
prices and as supply flows improve.
Lundgren concludes, ‘We continue to
