Topics to be discussed during the
three-day event will include stan-
dards impacting recyclers, imple-
mentation of the EU’s new Direc-
tive on Waste Electrical and
Electronic Equipment (WEEE 2)
and best recycling technologies.
There will also be e-waste status
reports from around the world
while a panel discussion will cover
the question: ‘WEEE 2 – are the
drivers in place for success?’ In addi-
tion, parallel sessions will tackle:
batteries from WEEE – take back &
recycling; challenges with hazard-
ous components; critical materials
recovery; and take-back systems
worldwide.
Several keynote speakers have been
lined up for the Salzburg congress,
among them: Bjarne Schieldrop,
chief analyst commodities at SEB;
Thomas Breitkopf, member of the
board of Remondis; Lennart Evrell,
president and ceo of Boliden; Maria
Banti, policy officer at the European
Commission’s DG Environment;
and Dr Therese Shryane of Interpol’s
Environment Crime Programme.
A large exhibition area will be inte-
grated into the conference facility
where equipment and service pro-
viders can meet potential clients.
Cocktail receptions and a network-
ing dinner will be held in order to
bring together business partners,
friends and competitors.
The congress is also offering tours
of plants in the vicinity of Salzburg,
including: a copper smelter; a com-
bined visit to a leading shredder
plant, metal separation plant and
plastics recycling plant; a plastics
recycling machinery manufacturer;
and an electronics recycling facility.

Salzburg is the birthplace of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The 13th International Electronics Recycling Congress (IERC) will
return to a familiar venue in 2014, namely the Austrian city of Salzburg.
Organiser ICM expects more than 500 people to attend the event –
including experts from industry, the authorities and academia – to listen
to presentations on latest developments and challenges in this area.
