Mobile shear for the small scrap processor
Shred-Tech innovation crosses the Atlantic
Sierra Europe’s fi rst Hawk inclined shear
More separator strength but same price tag
Vezzani has introduced a new
mobile shear based on the princi-
ples of its PC/AC pre-compression
shear. The new VS pre-compres-
sion shear occupies the 600- to
700-tonne range and uses the
same gravity feed system that
Vezzani patented for its PC/AC
stationary shears.
Adaptation of the PC/AC shear into the
mobile VS was achieved with relatively few
changes to the overall design concept. The
single compaction ram of the PC/AC was
replaced by two rams – one on each side
– to balance its weight in transit. Retract-
able legs were added so the machine can
self-load on and off a low-boy trailer.
According to Vezzani’s Business Develop-
ment Director Gabriele Merlo, the com-
pany’s goal in developing the VS Series
was to engineer a light, compact and
transportable unit that could be manu-
factured and supported to the same high
quality standard as its stationary
machines. Noting that the VS series incor-
porates features developed with smaller
operations in mind, Mr Merlo adds that
the product ‘can help small companies to
grow their business – it gives owner-
operators and small crews a fl exible piece
of machinery that can travel anywhere
and go right to work without installing a
foundation or pit or electrical lines’.
Field trials on customers’ job sites have
shown the VS transportable shear is
meeting the design goal of achieving
dense, high-grade material at a rate of
above 20 tonnes per hour.

Shred-Tech, the secure
shredding technology
specialist, has intro-
duced the MDX-1
– described as the
industry’s fi rst fully-
automated, dual-
mode, ultra-high-
security Mobile
Shredding Truck.
Developed jointly with Austrian shredder
producer Untha, the patent-pending
MDX-1 can switch from regular to ultra-
high-security shred mode in just four
seconds. In the former, the shredder
achieves a throughput of up to 2.95
tonnes per hour while the latter mode
produces ultra-small shred particles
meeting DIN 3 specifi cations at a rate of
up to 1.1 tonnes per hour.
Unveiled in the USA earlier this year and
now launched on the European market,
the MDX-1 is available in both Ground Tip
and Side Lift formats, and with a 15- or
18-tonne chassis. Other features include
the proprietary Gripper Tipper patented
retractable bin tunnel loading system (in
the Ground Tip format only) and the Plus
1 micro-control system which allows for
remote system diagnostics and real-time
video of the shredding process for addi-
tional customer peace of mind.
The MDX-1 also includes Predictive Idle
which increases fuel savings and reduc-
es shredder/engine hours by sensing
loads and shutting down the system
once shredding is complete.

Italy-based scrap shear-baler
manufacturer Sierra Europe will
deliver its fi rst inclined shear –
the Sierra Hawk 715 LS – in 2012.
Weighing in at more than 60 tonnes, the
shear has a 715-tonne shearing force
while its fl ipper boasts a 200-tonne push-
ing force to help in processing mixed and
light material. This versatile machine com-
bines an internal box measuring 7800 mm
in length with four hydraulic legs for ease
of transportation.
According to Sierra Europe, the Hawk
series retains the reliability of all shear-
balers in the Sierra range but adds the
advantage of processing scrap with
inclined shears. The Hawk
715 is capable of
producing at a rate of 15 to 25 tonnes
per hour.
The Hawk will be the fi rst of many new
models that Sierra Europe intends to
release next year.

The Extractor in-line magnet
from S+S Separation and Sort-
ing Technology has been devel-
oped for plastics industry appli-
cations to protect extruders as
well as injection and blow
moulding machines.
In previous versions, the three neodymi-
um magnetic rods were of 6000 Gauss
strength at the effective surface, the
external side of the stainless steel casings,
where material contact takes place. S+S
now has upped this power to 8000 Gauss
with no increase in price while maintain-
ing the same compact dimensions.
Installed directly on the infeed, the
Extractor separates ferro-magnetic con-
taminants from the recycled granulate
immediately before processing, reducing
expensive repairs and machine down-
time. The compact system design in com-
bination with customer-specifi c connec-
tors and adaptor plates can be retrofi tted
and will withstand dynamic loads up to
500 kg (shear loads up to 50 kg).
