Recycling International • November 2007 6
More than 350 industry,
authority and academic experts
will meet to discuss waste electri-
cal and electronic equipment
(WEEE) recycling, including latest
related developments within the
recycling industry itself. The con-
gress sessions will focus on, among
other topics: the challenges posed
by WEEE take-back systems and
the recycling industry; prevention
of illegal exports; new technologies
and recycling equipment; and de-
velopment of recycling loops by
countries and manufacturers.
Keynote speakers will share
their views and strategies relating
to sustainable business. These in-
clude: Dr Leopold Zahrer of the
Austrian Federal Ministry of Agri-
culture, Forestry, Environment
and Water Management; Timo
Mäkelä of the European Commis-
sion, DG Environment; Graham
Davy of Sims Group; and Dr Her-
bert Mrotzek of BSH Bosch und
Siemens Hausgeräte in Germany.
On the final day of the congress,
delegates can participate in a num-
ber of technical visits, including:
metal and e-waste recycling com-
pany Müller-Guttenbrunn which
creates a valuable plastics fraction
for delivery to MBA Polymers for
further processing; and MBA Poly-
mers which produces high-grade
plastic granulates, compounds and
flakes from mixed plastic waste de-
rived mainly from end-of-life elec-
tronics and other durable products.
Two other visits are scheduled: to
the state-of-the-art electronics re-
cycling plant of Höpperberger/EAR
near Innsbruck; and to Montan-
werke Brixlegg, Austria’s only cop-
per producer.
For delegates wanting to extend
their stay and enjoy a weekend in
the mountains near Salzburg, ICM
has organized a ski weekend for af-
ter the congress. A limited number
of hotel rooms are reserved for Zell
am See which is only 50 minutes
drive from Salzburg.
