‘Waste paper is one of the most
important and hottest commodities,
and traded globally as a profitable
asset,’ notes Geoplan, host of the lat-
est Recycling Aktiv trade show to be
staged from June 11 to 13 at Karl-
sruhe/Baden-Baden airport in Ger-
many. The theme of this year’s event
will be ‘paper, cardboard and card-
board packaging’.
Various items of equipment will be
showcased, notably state-of-the-art
recycling systems to sort, bundle,
store and transport recovered paper.
Geoplan stresses that such innova-
tive solutions are vital to the sector
because ‘the greater the demand, the
higher the demands on the quality of
the respective grades of waste paper’.
At Recycling Aktiv, around 8000
tonnes of scrap metal, paper, wood,
plastics and construction & demoli-
tion waste will be recycled during the
live demonstrations that will take
place over an area of 2000 m2. Profes-
sional moderators will offer visitors
a step-by-step guide through the
many different recycling processes.

Metal Bulletin Events’ 4th Copper
Recycling Conference will highlight
the importance of scrap to the red
metal market. ‘Use of copper contin-
ues to grow, with nearly 40% of cop-
per used each year coming from
secondary sources,’ the organisers
point out. However, the value chain
has become more complex and recy-
cling data continue to be vague, thus
fuelling a need for transparent,
informative discussion of the key
issues affecting the market, they add.
Key topics on the agenda in Barce-
lona will include: the impact of
e-scrap on copper; recycling trends
in China; changes in supply and
demand; the impact of virgin copper
on prices; and innovations aimed at
optimising the pre-sorting, process-
ing and melting of scrap.
Notable speakers wi l l include
Michael Lion, chairman and director
of Sims Metal Management Asia, and
Norbert Zonneveld, executive secre-
tary of the European Electronics
Recyclers Association.
