Blade lubrication with LaBounty shears
US hydraulic cutting tools man-
ufacturer Stanley LaBounty has
introduced an automated, blade
lubrication system which, it is
claimed, will significantly reduce
maintenance and enhance
shearing performance.
Use of this new line of shears –
called the MSD Saber-Lube Series –
will double the blade life, halve
build-up welding time on the affect-
ed jaw areas and reduce downtime
by two weeks or more per year, ac-
cording to the manufacturer.
The new tool will convert blade
friction into an increase in usable
cutting power of up to 8% while oth-
er features include reduced noise
and easier removal of wear parts.
The overall cutting process is
smoother, reducing shock loading
throughout the shear and excavator,
states Stanley LaBounty. A longer
component life will be realised by
less welding, it adds.
The MSD Saber-Lube Series will
be presented at the 2008 Institute of
Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI)
Exposition in Las Vegas, USA, on
April 7-9.

Rapid 600 series for plastics recyclers
Rapid Granulator AB of Sweden
has introduced a new series of
‘open-hearted’ granulators. The
Rapid 600 series is available in
three models and can handle up
to 2500 kg of material per hour.
Rapid’s ‘open-hearted’ concept is
based on an ergonomic design that
provides swift, direct and complete
access to the heart of the machine,
the rotor and cutter house during
production changes. According to
the manufacturer, this radically
simplifies inspection, cleaning and
maintenance processes which can
account for up to 80% of a granula-
tor’s running costs.
As well as the new 600 Series,
Rapid offers 300, 400 and 500 series
open-hearted granulators. The 400
Series has been expanded to include:
the 400-60 HD (Heavy Duty) for
tough applications; and the 400-120,
the widest model in this series which
suits the recycling of extra-wide in-
jection moulded and thermoformed
wastes.
The Rapid ‘open-hearted’ granu-
lators are designed for high-volume
central or beside-the-press granula-
tion of injection-moulded, blow-
moulded or extruded plastic waste
or rejects for direct recycling. All em-
ploy the Rapid cutting technique,
comprising a clean double-scissors
cutting action and a constant cutting
circle for producing uniformly-sized
granules with minimal dust content.
The machines’ cutting action is
said to reduce the force needed to
slice through plastics, resulting in
lower energy consumption.

New Mega-Batch Feeder from US Shredder
The US Shredder and Castings
Group has designed and sup-
plied the heaviest batch feeder
for the scrap and shredder
industry, the company claims.
Designed for a recent installation
where mined auto shred fluff is being
processed, the batch feeder is thought
likely to lend itself to many applica-
tions within the scrap industry.
US Shredder and Castings
Group’s President Bill Tigner ob-
serves: ‘The durability and design of
the feeder literally makes it unpar-
alleled in similar equipment that is
supplied to the scrap industry.’
Measuring 8 feet wide and avail-
able in lengths of 20 feet and longer,
the Mega-Batch Feeder is designed
to accept full loads of material
loaded directly from a dump truck.
Feed rates can be varied from 5 feet
to 150 feet per minute. Supplied
with motor, power pack and electri-
cal controls, the feeder employs a
proprietary sealed belt capable of
handling shred, automotive shred-
der residue (ASR) and waste prod-
ucts. It also uses a ‘kick back’ drum
for proper metering of material.
The US Shredder and Castings
Group offers complete scrap shred-
ding systems, Moros scrap shears,
balers and loggers, as well shredder
castings, service and consulting to
the North and Central American
scrap industry.

Sliding door for Orwak’s 3410 baler
Waste technology corporation
Orwak has equipped its 3410
baler, which was launched in
2007, with a sliding door.
This optional feature offers a dis-
tinct advantage in operations where
material flows are constantly high or
where baler use is intense at specific
times of the day, observes the
Swedish manufacturer.
Whether comprising the sliding
door option or not, all 3410 balers of-
fer the same main features, includ-
ing: a short cycle time, a safe door
opening mechanism and quiet oper-
ation, with noise levels reaching
only 59.5 decibels. The cycle time of
the Orwak 3410 is just 35 seconds
while the cycle times of the 3810 and
3210 models – which were also
launched last year – are 35 seconds
and 13 seconds respectively.
The new balers are equipped with
a conveniently located switch on the
side of the machine which makes it
easy to change the settings between
high pressure for cardboard and low
pressure for plastic foil.
