The International Automobile
Recycling Congress (IARC) will
provide an opportunity for recy-
cling, vehicle manufacturing and
authority experts to meet and ex-
change valuable information. The
congress will be held in Munich,
Germany, the country which is
home to some of Europe’s largest
automotive, steel and scrap pro-
duction companies. During the
event, experts from all corners of
the world will address issues relat-
ing to car recycling.
A key topic will be the revision of
the EU’s End-of Life Vehicle (ELV)
Directive, which will have a major
impact on car manufacturers world-
wide as well as on the recycling in-
dustry in Europe. In addition, the
difference between car recycling
and car recovery will be assessed
during a round-table discussion en-
titled ‘Recycling or recovery? Bitten
by the dog or the cat?’
Keynote speakers at the congress
will be: Horst Meierhofer, who is a
Member of the German Parliament;
Rolf Willeke, Managing Director of
German scrap federation BDSV;
and Manfred Beck, Publisher and
Editor of Recycling International.
The congress will also feature a
‘Meet your clients’ networking din-
ner as well as a cocktail reception in
the exhibition hall.
On the final day of the congress,
delegates will have the choice of
four technical visits, to the BMW
car manufacturing and disman-
tling plants; to Schindelar, one of
Germany’s leading car recycling
companies and a visit to the AVA
Waste Utilization Plant in Augs-
burg,
