At major Italian trade show Eco-
mondo, Swiss company Albat-
ech released Blue Pike – innova-
tive and patented equipment
designed to recover high-value
materials from refrigerator
compressors.
‘The machine allows the valorisation of
waste recycling lines by recovering the
copper elements used in commercial
fridges,’ the manufacturer notes.
Through the patented process,
material output will see a value
increase of 80%, it claims.
The entire cycle is ‘optimised’ and
allows correct, full separation of
the different materials in the
components as well as elimina-
tion of oil emulsions containing
chlorofluorocarbon gas. Blue
Pike prevents hazardous gas
from coming into contact with
workers so there is ‘not any risk’.

Metso Recycling’s new EtaPre-
Shred 4000 Mobile has been
designed to ‘make it easier than
ever before to process all kinds
of waste in almost any location’.
The mobile units are available in
a semi-trailer version and are
claimed to reduce running costs
through higher effi ciency and
performance.
Metso Recycling’s shredding technology
is based on an ‘extremely aggressive’
knife design and open cutting table,
which provides ‘outstanding perfor-
mance’ when dealing with mixed and
challenging materials. These key features
make Metso EtaPreShred units extreme-
ly resistant to wear caused by materials
and waste normally considered as ‘non-
shreddable’, including solid steel, rein-
forced concrete and rocks.
The shredder’s new Cat C15, 403 kW
power pack offers the advantage of

extending the time between services
from 250 hours to 500 hours, thus rep-
resenting a signifi cant saving on service
costs over the unit’s lifetime, according
to the developer. Other benefi ts include
an enhanced cooler system that offers
up to 5% energy savings, a higher hop-
per to increase the volume, a more
intuitive touch-screen display and a
mounted ladder to improve access for
inspection.
‘The new, improved mobile units are
easier to load and transport than their
predecessors,’ adds Henning Lindbjerg,
vice president for waste recycling at
Metso. ‘They feature all the robustness
and strength you’d expect from a Metso
PreShredder.’

Data destruction expert Tabernus
showcased its new Enterprise
Erase Mobile (EEMobile) system
at the E-Scrap Conference staged
recently in the US city of Orlando.
The hardware rack and additional
software support the simultane-
ous erasure of up to 48 mobile
phones or 20 iPads.

Tabernus enables user-friendly erasure
of mixed mobile devices so that iOS and
Android data can be safely deleted with-
out needing any additional time per

device. The application runs as a server
so that new devices can be ‘hot
swapped’ rather than as a batch pro-
cess, thus enabling operators to add
new devices as needed.
Tabernus’ automated full logging and
reporting facilities within an online
reports generation tool provides a full
audit trial of the erasure, date, time and
serial number of the device alongside
confi rmation of a successful erasure.
‘The system is very effi cient and will be
able to handle all models of Blackberry
and Windows phones as well this
autumn,’ remarks Daniel Dyer, vice
president of global operations at Taber-
nus. ‘Data security is gaining importance
in the market. People want to know that
their devices are clear of all personal
information before being recycled.’

Finnish company ZenRobotics
reveals that, for the last year or
so, it has been working ‘under-
cover’ on a ‘big project’ in its
secret laboratory and at SITA
Suez sorting sites. And the result:
its new-generation ZenRobotics
Recycler (ZRR) sorting station.
ZenRobotics Recycler uses visible spec-
trum cameras, near infrared and 3D laser
scanners, etc. to create a highly accurate,
real-time analysis of the waste stream.
Currently, the ZRR sorts metal, wood
and stone fractions – with more options
said to be coming soon as the system is
‘constantly improved’.
The manufacturer states: ‘Our next-
generation ZRR is faster, can sort huge
objects and reaches a whole 2 metres
along the sorting belt.’ Waste sorting by

humans ‘simply cannot be compared
with the power, stamina and speed of
the ZRR’, it insists.
