The International Electronics Recy-
cling Congress (IERC) will be held
early next year in a familiar venue –
the Austrian city of Salzburg. Organ-
iser ICM expects more than 500
people to attend the event, including
experts from industry, the authority
arena and academia who will make
presentations on the latest develop-
ments and challenges in this area.
Topics to be discussed during the
three-day event will range from
economies of scale in e-scrap recy-
cling to reports about strategic met-
als recycling (eg, platinum group
metals and rare earth elements) and
e-scrap recycling standards. There
will also be e-waste status reports
from around the world. A panel dis-
cussion will focus on ‘Free trade, fair
trade or no trade’ while another
debate will examine how standards
can contribute to level playing fields.
Several keynote speakers have been
lined up for the Salzburg congress,
among them: Christian Schirmeis-
ter, Executive Director Global Com-
modities Group of J.P. Morgan;
Anders Jansson, President and CEO
of Stena Metall; and Prof. Oladele
Osibanjo of the Federal Ministry of
Environment, Nigeria.
A large exhibition area will be inte-
grated into the conference facility
where equipment and service pro-
viders can meet potential clients.
Cocktail receptions and a network-
ing dinner will be held in order to
bring together business partners,
friends and competitors.
The congress is also offering tours
of plants in the vicinity of Salzburg,
including: a copper smelter; a com-
bined visit to a leading shredder
plant, metal separation plant and a
plastics recycling plant; a steelworks;
and an electronics recycling facility.
