More than 120 customers and suppliers gathered in Memmingen to celebrate the opening of Genesis Europe’s new assembly and production hall.
attachment production and assem-
bly in Memmingen. In co-operation
with our suppliers, we will also do
more in the production and assem-
bly of other products such as scrap
shears. In addition, we will more
aggressively market our products in
Eastern Europe, Spain, Portugal
and the UK.’ And last but not least,
says Mr Erath, ‘we will also focus
more on ship recycling in Europe,
now that it has become clear that
the EU wants this to be done in
European countries in future. Our
shears are already widely used in
this application’.
Worldwide markets
Currently employing some 15 people, Genesis
Europe also serves Eastern Europe, the Middle East
and Africa, although Western Europe remains the com-
pany’s major market, with some 80% of its attachments
sold to countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark,
Germany, Switzerland, Spain and the Netherlands.
Demolition shears represent the main product type sold
into Middle East, while Genesis has also supplied a
number of large and small scrap and demolition shears
into Africa. Mr Erath points out: ‘Since 2002, we have
sold attachments in 33 countries worldwide – from
Liechtenstein to Vladivostok in Russia, from Jeddah in
Saudi Arabia to the North Cape in Norway.’
Currently, Genesis Europe boasts a network of
45 dealers and trade partners in 30 countries world-
wide covering sales and servicing of its equipment.
Production and research
‘I think I can say that Genesis offers the widest
range of scrap shear attachments in the world,’ ven-
tures Mr Erath. The array includes: XP mobile
shears in the 2.5 to 25 tonnes range, demolition
shears, hydraulic quick coupling systems, scrap
grapples, demolition and sorting grapples, magnet
plates and clamshell grapples. ‘Genesis has a strong
position in the market for big shears,’ he notes. ‘We
now produce shears in the 12 to 25 tonne range.’
A development introduced last year is Genesis’
Logix Processor (LXP) which is said to offer con-
tractors single-tool power and multi-tool versatility,
with change-out between the pulveriser and shear
jaws achieved in less than 15 minutes. The LXPs
are available in sizes to fit excavators of 20, 30, 40
and 50 tonnes.
And the company’s latest product, which was
introduced during the Bauma construction exhibi-
tion earlier this year, is the versatile Genesis Versi
Pro (GVP) multi-processor for skid-steers and mini-
excavators which currently offers a choice of three
jaw sets: grapple, shear and concrete cracking jaws,
with additional jaw sets to come. The existing jaw
sets allow for a broad range of applications for the
system, such as cutting cable, indoors demolition jobs
and other smaller jobs.
The Fuchs Quick-Connect system, which was devel-
oped by Genesis Europe in corporation with Terex
Fuchs, allows the material handler operator to change
from a stick to a shear without leaving the cabin. Since
the introduction of the system in 2002, more than
150 Quick-Connect systems have been sold.
For the Genesis attachments, research and devel-
opment is carried out both in the USA and in Europe.
In America, the focus falls mainly on shears while, in
Europe, attachments are tuned for the European mar-
ket and modified to fit the Quick-Connect System.
The attachment bodies are produced exclusively at
Genesis plants in the USA, while the components
come from European suppliers. The assembly is per-
formed by Genesis Europe, including quality checks.
In addition, Genesis Europe carries many shears
in stock in its huge warehouse. ‘As a result, we can
work fast and be very flexible,’ says Mr Erath.
Future plans
When asked about future plans at Genesis
Europe, Mr Erath responds: ‘Basically, we want to
grow together with our customers. We want to help
them find solutions for their problems by offering
them a good product and good service, and by being
flexible. For instance, for our customers, machine
downtime is one of the worst things that can hap-
pen and we do our best to keep this to a minimum.’
He continues: ‘We currently have the capacity to build
100 smaller shears of up to 8.3 tonnes per year but, with
the opening of the new production hall, we can do more
Genesis Europe’s Managing Director
Dominique Erath: ‘We want to grow together

The LXP 500 for the demolition and recycling
industries represents Genesis’ largest shear.
