Pallmann refines preparation of thermoplastic waste
The Plast-Agglomerator PFV-PC
developed by Pallmann is capable of
processing pre-cut and pre-cleaned
thermoplastic materials with an initial
moisture content of up to 10%. Almost
any thermoplastic and pre-cleaned waste
material – especially that from PET bot-
tles, packaging and agricultural film – can
be processed and agglomerated with the
PFV-PC.
‘The feed material is cleaned in a plastic
washing system and afterwards directly
introduced into the agglomerator via a
screw press or a centrifuge,’ explains Pall-
mann. This reduces the moisture content
of the material ‘to less than 10%’.
The actual process of agglomerate pro-
duction is performed below the material
melting point by means of frictional heat.
‘Therefore, there is no thermal damage
and the valuable properties of the feed
material are preserved to the greatest
possible extent,’ says the manufacturer.
The end product is eligible for processing
across a range of applications.
The performance of the agglomerator can
be augmented
by an upstream
thermal drying step. ‘Throughput rates
of much more than 1000 kg per hour
are achieved with a power consumption
of the motor of less than 200 kW,’ Pall-
mann notes.

Metso launches innovative balance crane
Combining its knowledge of both mining
and recycling, Metso has developed an
innovative balance crane. The MBC 95/29
is intended to increase profits by saving
on energy and maintenance costs ‘even
in difficult times’.
With the durability of heavy mining
equipment, the new MBC 95/29 is said
to surpass the speed, agility and effi-
ciency needs of the recycling industry.
‘The machine is easier to manipulate
than excavators, is up to 80% less expen-
sive to run, and much safer to operate,’
according to Metso.
Like all of the company’s balance cranes,
the new model incorporates the counter-
balance principle, resulting in 50% less
energy to move the load and making it
up to 80% more efficient than compa-
rable hydraulic excavators.
‘To develop the crane, we broke the tech-
nology down into five segments – elec-
trical, mechanical, structural, hydraulic
and programming; each segment was
reviewed from an industry, customer,
components and durability perspective to
ensure we offer the best balance crane to
the recycling industry,’ says Metso Miner-
als product manager Lee Stember.
The Metso balance crane is particularly
suited to the recycling business because
it has a long reach, more effectively man-
ages scrap stockpiling, and efficiently
feeds shredders and shears.

Increased metals recovery with Tomra sorter
Tomra Sorting Recycling of Germany
will launch its enhanced X-Tract X-ray
sorting machine at the upcoming ISRI
Convention & Expo in Las Vegas, USA. In
particular, the machine can improve the
recovery of heavy metals and aluminium.
Equipped with a new sensor designed
to boost performance and stability, the
X-tract has been refined to secure higher
metal recovery purity, fewer product
losses and a consistent product quality.
In addition, saleable by-products can be
recovered. The company’s designers have
further reduced the machine’s operat-
ing costs and have added user-friendly
features, including an intuitive and
flexible touchscreen interface
for process control and adjustment.
In its relaunched format, the X-tract is
said to be an even more powerful and
efficient sorting tool. ‘This robustly-built
sorting system will have
a longer operational
lifespan and it offers
an even better return

Presona presents intuitive
touchscreen baling system
New Presona LP Series balers
will feature the latest touch-
screen control technology. ‘All
will incorporate the PREMI 2.0
PLC Control System as stand-
ard, giving recycling plant
operators and managers the
ability to monitor, manage
and switch operations via an
intuitive screen,’ the firm has announced.
The PREMI 2.0 PLC Control System stores
data reports to help users identify and
implement improvements and efficien-
cies. It is also configured to accept remote
adjustments and software updates, pro-
vides multi-language functionality, and
has three access levels – namely, operator,
manager and Presona service.
Users can pre-set 20 frequently-used
programs, switching between these via
the animated touchscreen as required in
order to optimise throughput levels and
minimise downtime. When needed, users
can configure the system for specific,
non-standard processes or materials.
‘Housed within the baler’s control panel
or available as a stand-alone operator
unit, the PREMI 2.0 puts productivity at
the heart of the operation,’ Presona com-
ments. Remote checks include: programs
being used; active valves and motors; the
position and status of moving parts; and
oil temperature and pressure levels.
