The world’s biggest recycling event, held in Munich, Germany every other year, has been called off due to the coronavirus crisis.
The event was initially planned for early May but had been postponed to early September. ‘We cancel the alternative date with a heavy heart,’ says Stefan Rummel, managing director of Messe München. ‘However, given the still unforseeable circumstances, a safe and successful IFAT 2020 for all is no longer feasible.’
No soon recovery
The decision to drop the 2020 edition comes after intensive discussions with industry associations, partners and many exhibitors from all segments of IFAT. A survey conducted by Messe München carried out after Easter of close to 2 000 exhibitors has revealed that most respondents were against IFAT being held from 7-11 September.
No less than 85% of those surveyed do not expect the environmental technology sector to recover economically before the first half of 2021. ‘Hence, IFAT at the planned time would be unacceptable,’ the organiser says.
The next IFAT trade show will take place from 30 May to 3 June 2022.
