United States – Clothing recycler American Textile Recycling Service (ATRS) – which was founded in 2001 and provides free textile recycling solutions in 10 states – has acquired a 21 000-square-foot textiles and shoe collection facility in Indianapolis for an undisclosed sum.
ATRS purchased the collection site, which operates 144 bins in the region, from Retail Management Specialists of Eastern Missouri LLC so as to enable ‘easy and convenient’ recycling solutions for a much wider community.
‘We are excited about our next phase of growth and development into the Midwest and beyond, ‘ comments Debra Stevenson Peganyee, chief marketing officer for ATRS. ‘We look forward to helping Disabled American Veterans expand this clothing donation partnership into an ongoing stream of monthly revenue to increase local programmes and services for veterans state-wide by 2025. ‘
According to ATRS, Americans discard the equivalent of 22 billion pounds of clothing and related items annually, of which only around 15% is recycled.
