UK tyres score ‘green’ goals in Australia

United Kingdom – Leading UK rubber granule manufacturer Murfitts Industries says a football team in the Australian city of Melbourne will soon be playing on two new artificial pitches made with recycled tyres from British cars.

Based in Suffolk in the east of England, Murfitts has shipped over 300 tons of its recycled rubber granules to Australia to create a 19 000-square-metre surface for the Monbulk Rangers Soccer Club.

The material also meets the very strict regulations imposed by football’s governing body FIFA, the company urges.

The Melbourne link-up is one of a string of international projects for Murfitts, including new fields in Tokyo, Belem and Amsterdam. Bespoke processes at Murfitts are claimed to guarantee 100% recycling of all tyres – of which it reclaims and recycles more than 11 million per year.

The company’s founder Mark Murfitt notes: ‘Our business is unusual in that we are able to completely remove a waste product from the refuse chain and create something of higher value from it, something which clearly has multiple benefits.’
