Malaysian tyre recycling facility to supply footwear majors

Asia – Boosted by increased demand worldwide for industrial rubber, the Green Rubber Global company of Malaysia will open a new plant shortly for the recycling of used tyres into reusable rubber using what the company claims to be a ‘patented devulcanisation technology’.

The rubber will be used primarily by shoe manufacturers Timberland and New Balance. According to a Malaysian media report, the new facility will have the capacity to process up to 25 000 tonnes per year. And over the next three years, the company expects to produce 105 000 tonnes of new rubber.

Apart from supplying the footwear industry, Green Rubber Global also delivers to tyre and conveyor belt manufacturers, with export outlets including Europe, China, South Africa, South Korea and Russia.

In Malaysia, some 8 million tyres reach their end-of-life stage every year, most of which end up in landfill.
