Lummus Technology has made a strategic investment in Innovent Renewables to speed up global deployment of its tyre recycling technology.

The move builds on a partnership established in 2025 under which Lummus exclusively licenses Innovent’s tyre pyrolysis technology.

The process converts used tyres into pyrolysis oil, recovered carbon black, pyrolysis gas and steel and covers everything from pre-processing to purification. Pyrolysis oil can be sold as fuel oil, off-road diesel or as a feedstock for blending with crude oil.

Lummus plans to deploy its network, process technologies and engineering capabilities to support an international roll-out.

Tyre mountain

More than one billion end-of-life tyres are sent to landfill sites worldwide every year. Innovent’s technology targets that waste stream with a continuous, end-to-end recycling solution.

Meanwhile, market interest in tyre pyrolysis continues to grow. According to research by Grand View, the global tyre pyrolysis market was valued at around EUR 1.8 billion in 2025 and can only grow.

Long-term mission

‘Investing in Innovent reinforces our commitment to advancing circular technologies that address real environmental challenges,’ says Leon de Bruyn, ceo of Lummus Technology. ‘This investment will accelerate global adoption of a proven recycling solution.’

Innovent currently operates a commercial facility in Monterrey, Mexico with capacity to process up to one million passenger vehicle tyres per year. Lummus’ investment means increased capacity at the site and strengthens the technology’s commercial viability.

‘We are thrilled to expand our strategic partnership with Lummus,’ adds Vibhu Sharma, ceo of Innovent Renewables. ‘Lummus’ global reach and engineering expertise will help us scale rapidly in markets that urgently need alternatives to traditional tyre disposal.’
