United Kingdom – UK-based Vanden Recycling has opened a new plastics processing facility at Whittlesey in the east of England – described as ‘a key milestone’ in the company’s expansion plans.
Known for its nationwide collections and recycling of plastic scrap primarily from industrial, distribution and retail sources, Vanden markets these materials to the manufacturing sector in the UK as well as in Europe and beyond.
According to the company’s managing director David Wilson, many opportunities exist to expand plastics recycling in the UK ‘but the volatility of the markets means that doing so requires a high degree of expertise and understanding’.
The new Whittlesey facility provides Vanden with a centrally-located, easy-access processing capability in the UK. The new resource is equipped with ‘technologically advanced’ shredding, granulation and baling plant as well as a front-end material inspection and preparation area.
It incorporates three ‘fully-soundproofed’ granulation lines with a combined capacity of up to 30 tonnes of plastic a day when operating on a single shift.
The plant has the flexibility to handle multiple plastic streams – including ABS, HDPE, LDPE, PC, PET, PMMA, PP, PS and PVC – and to switch plant set-up quickly to meet different customer requirements.
Although the facility has only just become fully operational, Vanden has already secured adjacent land to provide additional material storage space; this will allow the facility to increase its operations to two shifts per day.
