The Netherlands – Suez Environment’s daughter company SITA is to take over the recycling operations of Netherlands-based Houweling Group, which focuses on international trade in containers, transportation and warehousing, but also runs two lines handling rigid plastics.
According to SITA, it is the only facility in the Netherlands to sort plastic packaging from other household materials for further processing. With this acquisition, the company will now be able to extend its activities to include the recycling of obsolete hard plastics supplied by bulk consumers and business customers.
The site will come under SITA′s management as from January 2015 and eventually will have a capacity of 3600 tonnes per year.
′In terms of the recycling of packaging Houweling has proven a pioneer in sustainable developments. However, disposal is not part of our core business and we want to strengthen our international position as a packaging supplier,′ comments Marc Houweling, general manager of Houweling Group. ′On the other hand, the recycling of waste plastics is the core business of SITA. By pooling our knowledge, we hope to be able to bolster each other′s performance.′
