PVC firm to add recycling line

Belgium – PVC-based structural elements manufacturer Deceuninck has acquired recycling equipment from fellow Belgian company Verpola. The move will increase the Bruges-based company’s annual recycling capacity to 20 000 tonnes and make it the leading PVC recycling company in the Benelux countries. Deceuninck also conducts recycling operations at its PVC extrusion site in Gits.

Verpola is widely known for its recycling of expanded polystyrene (EPS) packaging waste. In 2004, Verpola started the recycling of rigid PVC waste sourced from, for example, post-industrial manufacturing and installations. Verpola is now selling its PVC equipment to Deceuninck to enable it to focus on the further development of EPS-related products.

The complete line will be integrated into the infrastructure of Deceuninck’s existing raw material production unit at Diksmuide at a total cost of Euro 3 million. It is expected that, in time, this operation will employ 13 staff. The plan is for the recycling of post-industrial waste from Deceuninck window manufacturers to become operational from the second quarter of 2012, with the recycling of end-of-life PVC windows from window and door installers expected to commence by the end of next year.

Tom Debusschere, CEO of Deceuninck, comments: ‘This strategic investment makes our vision very tangible. We offer our window manufacturers and installers an all-inclusive solution. Basically, recycling is simply another source of raw materials.’ The investment guarantees a closed loop for all products put on the market, he adds.
