Global – Global annual consumption of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging is forecast to reach 20.8 million tonnes in five years from now, according to a new report from packaging, paper and print industry supply chain expert Smithers Pira.
PET packaging will see ‘strong growth’ owing to greater demand in end-use markets, it claims. ‘Driven mainly by increasing demand in emerging and transitional economies, the market will grow 3.6% annually during the period 2016-21,’ the research concludes. There has been a ‘continued transition’ away from glass and, to a varying extent, metal cans, Smithers Pira also notes.
The report entitled ”The Future of PET Packaging to 2021” provides updates on bottle recycling technology, bottle/container design and multi-layer bottles, as well as PET processing equipment. It also presents volume and value forecasts by end-use sector and geographic region, and is supported by more than 100 tables and figures containing exclusive data.
