Middleton Engineering helps Biffa Polymers to double output

United States – UK recycling equipment specialist Middleton Engineering has installed a second bespoke conveyor at Biffa Polymers in the USA to enhance the processing of food grade high density polyethylene (rHDPE) at its ‘€˜first of its kind’€™ recycling plant in Redcar.

Some months ago, Biffa Polymers announced a US$ 7.9 million investment to double output for its HDPE recycling capacity to some 20 000 tonnes from early 2017.

The new piece of equipment with a length of 9.3 metres was designed to meet its ‘precise process requirements’ and is part of a separate new recycling line for mixed post-consumer rigid polypropylene. The 600mm wide cross-stabilised 3-ply rubber belt efficiently transfers material from a shredder up to the in-feed conveyor for a granulator at a rate of 1.5 tonnes per hour.
