Thailand / Indonesia – Indonesian-owned polyester resin group Indorama is building a new reprocessing plant in Thailand’s Nakhon Pathom province, close to Bangkok.
The company will recycle post-consumer PET bottles to produce resin for making drinks containers, yarns for clothing under environmentally-conscious brands, and coloured fibres for automotive and non-woven end applications.
Wongpanich, Thailand’s leading private waste recycler, will deliver discarded PET bottles to the facility. It is scheduled to begin operation by the fourth quarter of 2012 and will produce about 28 500 tonnes of polyester resin and fibre a year from 36 000 tonnes of collected bottles.
Aloke Lohia, Group CEO of Indorama Ventures (IVL), said: ‘While there are many companies working in recycled polyester, there are only a handful of manufacturers who are able to make the quality of recycled product suitable for premium applications, and there is unmet demand for recycled products. We expect this project to make a contribution to the bottom line.’
