Germany / United Kingdom – ELG Haniel GmbH of Duisburg in Germany has acquired 100% of the shares in UK-based Recycled Carbon Fibre (RCF) – ‘the first company worldwide commercially operating in the field of recycling carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) and the reclamation and processing of carbon fibre’.
The commercial reclamation of carbon fibre was initiated by former shareholder Roy Price who, over a 10-year period, developed the project to marketability. In 2009, RCF set up its facility at Coseley in central England for the commercial-scale reclamation of carbon fibre. Feedstock is principally waste from CFRP manufacturing processes which previously had to be either incinerated or sent to landfill.
The acquired company will be supervised by the present Managing Director Stephen Line and will operate under the name of ELG Carbon Fibre Ltd. Working in close co-operation with the RCF management team, ELG will further explore this new business segment ‘and is confident to expand it to a global group in this future-oriented industry’, it states.
The acquisition provides ELG with new growth potential in the rising market for composite materials, and enables the company to implement a sustainable and ecological concept for the reclamation of carbon fibre by means of its patent-protected technology.
