ECOPET paper lights up Issey Miyake designs

Japan – Japanese high-performance fibres and composites specialist Teijin Limited has reported that its high-quality polyester ECOPET paper is now one of the main ingredients of the new lighting collection from renowned designer Issey Miyake. Teijin’s paper is used to create lampshades and is made entirely from recycled polyester fibre derived from used PET bottles.

‘Our ECOPET paper has been used in printing applications, but this is the first time for the material to be used for lampshades,’ notes Teijin. The collection was developed by Miyake’s Reality Lab – a company focusing on remaking ‘even better things’ based on ‘environmentally-friendly and resource-conscious materials’.

The Miyake collection is called IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE, where ‘in ei’ means ‘shadow’ or ‘nuance’. It was produced by Italian lamp manufacturer Artemide and is already available in Europe and North America, with Japan to be added to this list in the summer.
