Slovakia – The plastics division of UK-based packaging specialist DS Smith has invested approximately Euro 357 000 (US$ 420 000) in enhancing the recycling capabilities of its extruded products operation in Hurbanovo, Slovakia.
The improvements are expected to ‘increase the use of recycled material and reduce costs associated with purchasing polypropylene plastics’, says the company.
A large portion of the investment has gone into replacing the current plastics regrind machine with an Erema model that is more efficient and offers greater capacity.
‘The capabilities of the new machine will double the site’s monthly recycling volume from 100 to 200 tonnes,’ states DS Smith. ‘The new machine offers a higher rate of recycled pellets per hour in consistent first-class quality.’ It will handle plastic sheets, layer pads, trays, boxes and any colour of other separators made of pure polypropylene.
DS Smith’s plastics division manufactures flexible packaging, filling equipment, dispensing solutions and rigid packaging returnables in Europe. It also has sites in North America, Asia and Australasia.
