Recycling finale for film stars’ red carpet

France – French recycling major Veolia has teamed up with the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, organiser of the Cannes Film Festival, to recycle some 1500 tonnes of waste from the event – including the famous red carpets. During this year’s festival, which too

During this year’s festival, which took place on May 11-22, the red carpet and the Palais carpets were renewed on average twice a day. The company has sent a total of 80 tonnes of carpet to a sorting centre in Carros, north of the city of Nice. The fibres from the carpets will be reused in the manufacture of industrial packaging and road signs, as well as in the automotive, construction and food industries.

Veolia not only provided containers and collection vehicles but also encouraged exhibitors and organisers to sort the waste, including metal, plastic film and aluminium decorations, while organics were recovered from the festival’s dining areas.
