United Kingdom – The Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group (PCRRG) has welcomed Starbucks as its first new member of the year. This expansion is seen as a big step towards its goal of identifying new opportunities and innovative projects to limit waste and to recycle paper cups.
Launched last July, the PCRRG has also extended its reach to organisations indirectly associated with the paper cup supply chain through the creation of a Supporter Membership category. New partners include the UK’s Waste & Resources Action Programme, Nestlé Professional and green energy company bio-bean.
′We expect to see all sorts of organisations accessing and joining the group now, including venue operators, facilities management companies, transport hubs, trade associations, charities and the media,′ comments the group′s consultancy expert Dee Moloney.
Starbucks representative Jim Hanna adds: ′Becoming a member of the Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group is a way for us to engage, collaborate and openly communicate with the key stakeholders across the value chain, as well as share our best practices at finding real solutions to paper cup recycling in other geographies.′
WRAP also states it is eager to share best practice know-how with the paper cup group while collaborating on sustainability projects.
