Bahrain – Mumtalakat Holding Company has announced a US$ 55 million new recycling and aluminium casting facility. The company based in Bahrain has already started construction on the site, according to ceo Mahmood Alkooheji.
The re-melt operation is operation is designed to develop GARMCO’s metal recycling capability, and will increase GARMCO’s production capacity by 150% to 200 000 tonnes of aluminium slabs per annum.
‘We are pleased with the progress of this project which will further develop the kingdom’s downstream aluminium industry,’ Alkooheji comments. He estimates that the manufacturing sector accounts for 20% of Bahrain’s GDP and is sure that such projects will notably boost its exports.
‘We are looking forward to receiving the first cast in July in order to reach maximum operational capacity by November this year,’ Alkooheji notes.
The ceo adds that the expansion is part of a three-year programme aimed at lowering the cost of metal.
