Aluminium and copper manufacturer Hindalco Industries has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gujarat government to build India’s largest aluminium extrusion and aluminium recycling plants in the state.
Hindalco Industries will invest around INR 35 billion (over US$ 480 million) in setting up a hub of cutting-edge recycling plants in Gujarat, India. The company, which is headquartered in Mumbai, reports that the major contract was signed last Friday by principal secretary for industries Manoj Kumar Das and Satish Pai, the managing director of Hindalco Industries.
‘The aluminium extrusion plants with an annual capacity of 150 000 tonnes will entail an investment of almost 2000 crore Rupees (US$ 275 million) in two phases,’ according to Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, who was also present at the signing.
The aluminium recycling plant, on the other hand, will have a processing capacity of some 300 000 tonnes per annum. The recycling plants will likely be constructed in Kutch, the biggest district in Gujarat. The sites are said to provide jobs for more than 3000 workers.
