Germany – Approximately 660 900 tonnes of aluminium was produced in Germany in the first six months of this year, reports the country’s light metal industry association GDA. Total production climbed 5.7% while output of recycled aluminium increased by nearly 10% when compared to the same period in 2016. Germany’s primary aluminium production amounted to 273 100 tonnes for January to June (+0.7% year on year) while the recycled total was 387 800 tonnes.
‘The underlying economic conditions for the German aluminium industry at the moment are better than were expected at the beginning of the year,’ comments Dr Andreas Postler, head of economics and statistics at GDA. Demand from industrial markets and Germany’s building and construction sector are said to be at a ‘satisfactory’ level. ‘Sentiment in the German aluminium industry is correspondingly optimistic,’ concludes Postler. ‘We do not envisage an economic downturn in the second half of the year and are therefore expecting an increase in production for the whole of 2017 in almost all sectors of the German aluminium industry.’
