Steel production dips in 2022

Global production of crude steel production in February was 142.7 million tonnes, down 5.7% on February 2021.

Data from the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) indicates that the total for the first two months of 2002 is 299.4 million tonnes, down 5.5% on the same period a year earlier.

According to worldsteel, China produced an estimated 75.0 million tonnes of that figure, down 10.0% on February 2021. India’s total of 10.1 million tonnes was up 7.6% while Japan produced 7.3 million tonnes, down 2.3%. The United States produced 6.4 million tonnes, up 1.4%. Of the other top 10 steel-producing countries, Russia’s total is estimated at 5.8 million tonnes, down 1.4%; South Korea produced 5.2 million tonnes (-6.0%); Germany 3.2 million tonnes (+3.8%); Turkey 3.0 million tonnes (-3.3%); Brazil 2.7 million tonnes (-6.9%); Iran 2.5 million tonnes (+3.7%).
