SMS absorbs two car yards

United States – Scrap Metal Services (SMS) has purchased two car scrap yards – Paul’s Auto Yard Inc. and Shafer’s Auto Yard Inc. – in Indiana and Michigan for an undisclosed sum. The dual acquisition has given rise to a new division known as SMS Paul’s Auto Yard.

Through this move, SMS will offer customers auto parts from the selection of used cars and trucks at each location. The two yards also purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap for recycling. ′This is a new retail service business for SMS, which allows our company to further diversify and strategically expand its recycling operations in the Midwest,′ notes ceo Jeffry Gertler.

SMS currently runs sites in both the USA and Mexico, spanning 22 scrap processing plants, steel mill support services, shipbreaking and oil rig dismantling sites as well as intermodal/truck/railcar dismantling facilities and auto parts sales points.
