Scrap processing capacity boost in Albania

Albania – Kürüm Holdings of Istanbul in Turkey, a steelmaker and scrap processor with major interests in its home country as well as in Russia and the Balkans, has installed a shredder at its steel mill in Elbasan, Albania.

The company acquired the Metso Lindemann shredder, which boasts a daily output capacity of 800 tonnes, from German conglomerate TSR. According to Recycling International’s local reporter, the shredder was disassembled at TSR in Magdenburg by Kürüm under the guidance of consulting firm Sicon. The shredder will feed Kürüm’s electric arc furnace which has an annual production capacity of up to 700 000 tonnes.

Kürum has also established scrap feeder yards, under a different entity, which will source material from across the Serbian, Croatian, Montenegran, Kosovar and Albanian territories.

It is the second shredding plant for the Balcan country, German company Scholz has another shredder in Albania – this one in Tirana.
