New role for former Nucor boss DiMicco

United States – Dan DiMicco, formerly ceo of major US steel producer and scrap player Nucor Corp., has been appointed chairman of the Coalition for a Prosperous America – a non-partisan coalition of domestic manufacturing, organised labour, ranching and farming devoted to ‘establishing a US policy of fair trade that benefits all Americans’.

Nucor used more than 20 million tonnes of scrap steel to produce new products in 2015. Having helped to found the coalition, DiMicco says of the organisation: ‘Our work has helped elevate responsible and effective trade reform to the top of the national agenda. We stand ready to work with the President, the Democrats and the Republicans to fix trade and create good-paying jobs in America.’

DiMicco rose from the position of plant metallurgist to ceo at Nucor between 1982 and 2000. In 2010, the Harvard Business Review included him in its list of ‘The Best Performing CEOs in the World’.

Brad Markell of the AFL-CIO Industrial Union Council says of DiMicco’s appointment: ‘He brings to his new role a deep understanding of how existing trade policies hurt our economy, and how to reform those policies to benefit American producers and American workers.’
