Metals recovery JV targets waste-to-energy process

The Netherlands – Dutch metals recovery technology specialist Inashco has established a joint venture with US firm Wheelabrator Technologies Inc. aimed at recycling ferrous and non-ferrous metals from the waste-to-energy process.

The new North American business will rely on Inashco′s patented and proprietary advanced dry recovery method. The partners say the non-ferrous recovery process will span aluminium, copper, lead and zinc as fine as 0.5 millimetres in size – ′much smaller than non-ferrous materials currently recovered by conventional technologies′, they stress.

Wheelabrator points to Inashco′s ‘proven track record′ in Europe as well as its ′unique ability′ to process fresh ash without the ageing that results in oxidation and diminished product values. Wheelabrator′s president Mark Weidman adds that his company has become very familiar with the non-ferrous waste stream over the past four decades. ′In 2013 alone, we recovered and recycled 142 000 tonnes of ferrous and non-ferrous metals,′ he notes. ′This joint venture will allow us to recover significantly more recyclable materials.′
