Global steel output declined in March

World crude steel production was 161.2 million tonnes (Mt) in March 2024, a 4.3% decrease compared to March 2023.

Of the top steel-producing countries, China reported 88.3 Mt in March 2024, down 7.8% on March 2023. India produced 12.7 Mt (up 7.8%); Japan 7.2 Mt (down 3.9%); and United States 6.9 Mt, the same as in March 2023.

Russia is estimated to have produced 6.6 Mt, up 0.8%; South Korea 5.3 Mt (down 9.5%); Germany 3.5 Mt (up 8.4%); Turkey 3.2 Mt (up 18.0%); Brazil 2.8 Mt (up 5.6%); and Iran 2.8 Mt (up 2.0%).
The data comes from the World Steel Association (worldsteel) reported by 71 affiliated countries.
