France – Coenmans Industrial Recycling (CIR) of France has completely re-designed its recycling facility at the river port of Bethune and Beuvry in Nord-Pas-de-Calais at a cost of around Euro 5 million.
The ferrous and non-ferrous processing facility now covers 30 000 square metres and features: a waste water treatment plant for end-of-life vehicles; a grinding unit for electrical cables; a building devoted to the processing of waste electrical and electronic equipment; a recycling unit for rainwater; a fuel station; and a washing area. The company will also build a 140-metre-long quay on the wide-gauge canal to the river port. The objective is to double capacity within five to ten years for only a 20% increase in carbon output.
Employing 30 people, CIR recycles 50 000 tonnes of metal per year and generates three-quarters of its revenue from export activity.
