UK mobile recycler seals key acquisition

United Kingdom – UK recycling and refurbishment specialist Redeem Holdings has acquired rival Envirofone, the leading mobile recommerce brand for consumers. Concluded for an undisclosed sum, the deal will boost Redeem’s recycling figures from 150 000 handsets per month to 187 000 and cement its position as the UK’€™s largest mobile recycling company based on volume, the Scottish firm notes.

‘The acquisition will enhance our processing capacity and provide new sales channels in new markets across the world – as well as give customers more flexibility to realise the optimum value for their used handset,’ comments company ceo Claes Svensson. He confirms that Envirofone’s offices in the UK, the Netherlands and Sweden will remain operational, with all 50 staff staying on.

‘Envirofone’s consumer platform has become a trusted brand over the past 10 years and this is something we’ll look to develop throughout the entire group,’ Svensson explains. ‘We have no intention to rebrand the business.’

Envirofone is said to have paid out to more than 3.5 million customers since its incorporation in 2005. Meanwhile, some 124.5 million unused handsets are estimated to be stored away in homes across the UK. According to Redeem, the average recycling value of an individual handset has soared from £20 to £108 in the past four years.
