The recycling of batteries in Portugal increased by 22% in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to the Electrão Association.
The organisation collected 412 tonnes of battery waste from electrical devices, toys, mobile phones, and computers.
The recycling of industrial batteries grew with 7%, says Electrão; the collection and recycling of these batteries went up from 891 tonnes in 2023 to 957 tonnes in 2024.
In total, Electrão sent 1 369 tonnes of used batteries for recycling in 2024, marking a 12% increase from the previous year.
In addition, the number of collection points across Portugal expanded by 21% in 2024, reaching a total of 8 735 locations.
