USA/Canada – Major global electronics recycler Sims Recycling Solutions (SRS) has gained e-Stewards certification for all of its processing sites in the USA as well as its facility in Toronto, Canada. Two other Canadian sites – in Vancouver and Montreal – are scheduled to be certified this summer.
The e-Stewards certification scheme was created by the Basel Action Network (BAN), a non-profit environmental organisation that fights illegal and irresponsible trade in toxic waste. The e-Stewards standard is endorsed by more than 70 environmental groups, as well as more than 70 major companies and cities.
′Sims Recycling Solutions has proven itself to be a company at the forefront of corporate responsibility,′ states BAN’s executive director Jim Puckett. He compliments the company for ′often taking unpopular and costly positions to prevent global e-waste pollution′.
SRS′ president Steve Skurnac comments: ′The e-Stewards certification is the standard that most responsible enterprises refer to when selecting a recycler. It will further provide our customers with the assurance that we are handling their material with integrity and accountability.′
