Romanian recycling major GreenGroup continues to expand its capacity in e-scrap recycling.
The company’s subsidiary GreenWEEE has officially opened its third facility in Buzau, north-east of the capital Bucharest. The expansion is to maximise material recovery, including iron, aluminium, copper, plastic and glass.
The new plant houses a modern refrigerator dismantling line. The addition means GreenWEEE now has the capacity to recycle up to one million fridges annually, with a strong focus on recovering hazardous substances.
‘National premiere’
At the inauguration ceremony, GreenWEEE’s managing director Marius Costache (No. 1 in Recycling International’s 2023 Top 100) also announced the completion of a EUR 2 million investment in an electric motor recycling plant, being ‘a national premiere,’ according to the company.
140 000 tonnes per year
GreenWEEE has invested EUR 15 million in the new facility. With the expansion of processing lines, the company’s total recycling capacity has increased to 140 000 tonnes of electronic scrap per year.
GreenWEEE was founded in 2009 and has since recycled processed 400 000 tonnes of e-scrap through its three plants: the two in Buzau and one in Campia Turzii.
