Canada – Last year, Staples Canada exceeded its battery collection goal of 60 tonnes by amassing more than 93 tonnes, almost doubling the 49 tonnes accumulated by the office products retailer in the previous year.
The company also collected 3 million ink and toner cartridges, over half a million more than in 2012. In that same year, Staples set itself the goal of taking back 5 million ink cartridges between Earth Day 2012 and Earth Day 2014.
The target has been surpassed with a total of approaching 5.1 million cartridges collected to date. Staples Canada, in partnership with eCycle Solutions, collects used electronics in almost 260 stores. Last year, 3300 tonnes of electronics was taken back.
