Changing of the guard at Ecobat

Battery recycler Ecobat has appointed Thomas Slabe as its new ceo.

Slabe is taking over from Marcus Randolph, who is also Ecobat’s chairman. He will continue to serve on the recycler’s board of directors to provide a ‘smooth transition’.

‘Tom’s diverse background, combined with successes at Neenah Enterprises (iron castings manufacturer) and Contech Engineered Solutions, makes him uniquely qualified to lead the company,’ Randolph says. ‘We have great confidence in Tom and trust that he will provide the strong leadership necessary to support the next phase of Ecobat’s growth and future success.’

In 2021 Ecobat recycled 70 million car batteries and wants to build on its performance in the e-mobility segment.

The recycler says funding is a ‘game-changer’ for the battery recycling industry. It includes the US Department of Energy’s recent US$ 37 million (EUR 34 million) investment to reduce EV recycling costs.

The cash is part of a US$ 200 million programme and addresses ‘overlooked’ issues, including the transport and pre-processing of spent car batteries.
