Canada – North America’s consumer battery stewardship scheme Call2Recycle has appointed Tim Michaels as managing director of operations. He will manage all the logistics for the organisation’s battery collection and recycling programme in both the USA and Canada.
Formerly a major in the US Marine Corps, Michaels recently served as a director of logistics at wind turbine manufacturer Ogin Energy. In his new position, he will be responsible for driving infrastructure enhancements with a ‘continued focus on greater operational effectiveness and efficiencies’, says Call2Recycle. He will be expected to ‘significantly strengthen’ sustainability efforts using his 15 years’ experience in domestic and international logistics, process improvement and operations management.
‘As the organisation continues to collect millions of pounds of batteries each year, Tim’s experience will help to expand our programmes and advance our North American battery recycling processes,’ says Call2Recycle’s ceo and president Carl Smith.
Since 1996, Call2Recycle has diverted 100 million pounds (45 000 tonnes) of batteries and mobile phones from the solid waste stream while establishing over 34 000 collection sites throughout North America.
