The Polish company, which owns two scrap using steel making plants in Poland and one in Split, Croatia, is in talks with three foreign companies specializing in steel mill construction.
Owner and CEO, Przemyslaw Sztuczkowski, has been planning to build a new steel mill for several months already. The investment will be worth EUR 300-400m. ’We are in talks with companies who could build the plant, the business plan of the venture is being prepared as well,’ Przemyslaw Sztuczkowski says.
No final decision has been made yet concerning the site for the new plant. It may be built in Poland near Czestochowa, Stalowa Wola or Swidnik. It will take three years to build, the plant is expected to have an annual capacity of 1 million tonnes of products.
‘€˜Due to the worldwide steelmaking boom, many plants are being built right now which means that the companies have full portfolios; you have to wait quite a long time to talk about the project’ , Mr Sztuczkowski explains.
‘€˜There has been no new steel mill built in Poland for many years. All we have been doing was restructuring the sector, which meant cutting production and employment. Zlomrex idea is very good. Last year, steel production in Poland amounted to 10.6 million tonnes. The demand is big and it will grow even further in upcoming years. In 2012, the capacity should be bigger or Poland will have to import steel goods,’€™ Kazimierz Kowalski, deputy CEO of the Steel Chamber of Trade and Industry commented to a Polish news paper Puls Biznesu.
